PCAAE conducted a webinar on “Association Governance: Post-demic Calibration for the Future” on February 1, 2023 with 17 local and overseas participants.

The featured speaker was Mr. Lowell Aplebaum, CEO of US-based Vista Cova, a team of expert facilitators who support strategic planning, member engagement, and governance design for associations.

In Lowell’s presentation, he mentioned that leading an organization is not about power and pride but a sense of responsibility with an open mind to change and to embrace the possibilities that come with curiosity and learning from perspectives of others.

He also reflected that strategy should guide decisions in an organization’s governance structure. Leaders need to practice the language of strategy and expect them to use this language in decisions they make and discussions they have. Ultimately, in governance, leaders are the champions, evangelists of the organization’s mission and they need to be empowered and be effective storytellers.
