PCAAE holds webinar on climate action and SDGs

PCAAE, in collaboration with the Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP) and the U.K.-based Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), conducted a webinar on “Business and Associations for Climate Action and the SDGs” on February 3, 2022. In attendance were local and overseas association executives.

The featured speakers were Ms. Alison Heppenstall, CAFA Executive Director and Ms. Yayu Javier, GCNP Local Representative and Chairperson.

Ms. Javier highlighted the ten (10) principles of the U.N. Global Compact (UNGC) which cover the four pillars on human rights, labor, environment; and anti-corruption and which are aligned in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative that has over 15,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders in 164 countries, and with two key objectives: (1) mainstream the ten principles in business activities around the world and (2) catalyze actions in support of the SDGs.

Ms. Heppenstall touched upon CAFA’s role to help mobilize10,000 associations to take bold and ambitious climate action by 2030. This is premised on the knowledge that business and industry are major contributors of carbon emissions globally. Membership organizations play a critical role in reaching the world’s net zero target faster and CAFA provides guidance, learning, and support to help member-organizations take action both internally and support them to deliver and share with other members of CAFA to create a greater positive impact on climate change.
