The PCAAE Academy, the career and development center of the Philippine Council of Associations and Association Executives (PCAAE), conducted a Certified Professional Association Executive (CPAE) seminar on Association Human Resources Management on June 20, 2017 at the Best Western Plus Antel Hotel in Makati City, Metro Manila. The seminar was attended by twenty one (21) PCAAE members who were credited with additional points towards becoming a CPAE.
The CPAE program was developed by PCAAE to further professionalize association governance and management in the country and offers excellent career opportunities and growth for those already working or those considering to work in the association sector that includes Board members, officers, staff and professionals.
The seminar comprised two (2) learning sessions where functions and roles of human resources management (HRM) and training and development and performance evaluation were exhaustively discussed and dissected by the speakers. The first session discussed the whole aspect of HRM for associations. Included in the discussions were the Dave Ulrich HR Competencies for 2016, paradigm of HRM, HRM functions in association, trends and issues in HRM, total quality management (TQM), roles of managers, management skills, management processes, roles of a supervisor, and the keys to successful supervision, trends in competency-based recruitment, talent acquisition vs recruitment, HR planning, and the total aspect of employee salary, including remuneration.
The second session discussed and differentiated the THEN and NOW in the learning and delivery process. The THEN refers to ADDIE which stands for Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate and the NOW refers to SAM which stands for Successive Approximation Model. In addition, the session also discussed the history of training, the seven (7) levels of evaluation process, gamification as a training and development tool for millennials, the importance of videos in training process and less powerpoint, and mlearning or mobile learning, a mobile-oriented training tool. Furthermore, the session also extensively discussed the techniques and the necessary factors to consider in conducting a presentation.
The renowned speakers who shared their expertise to the seminar were Mr. Jesse Rebustillo, Corporate Human Resources Head, Philippine Daily Inquirer and 2016 President of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP); and Mr. Rowell Vitor Mariano, Board of Trustee, Philippine Society for Training and Development.
